DENTAL IMPLANTS

Dental Implants - Coventry

Dental Implants are a modern method of replacing missing natural teeth. The idea was originally conceived by a Swedish surgeon in the early 60’s, so nowadays they have become a routine and highly predictable form of treatment with high success rates (99%). Implants are placed daily at our practice. Graham Murray has over 30 years’ experience and has placed more than 20,000 implants. We use Straumann Implants in the majority of cases, and we are a Straumann Platinum Accredited Practice.

What can Implants do?

Implants can be used to anchor artificial teeth in the mouth. This means that crowns(caps) and bridges can be fixed into the mouth where teeth are missing. A common problem for denture wearers is the full lower denture with no grip. Just two implants in the mouth with small retentive anchors inside the denture can overcome this.

What are Implants?

Implants are made from surgically pure titanium, which also has a proven track record in hip and joint replacements. They are placed into bone under the gum and perform a similar function to natural tooth roots. Implants are small and hidden from view inside the mouth.
Many people have just one or two missing teeth leaving unsightly gaps or perhaps they wear a small plastic or metal denture. With implants there may no longer be a need for a gap or denture.

A second bite at the Apple

Most patients over the age of 18 are able to have implants. Our oldest patient was 96 years old. Even patients on strong drug regimes or with pre-existing medical conditions can have implants if handled properly.

What does treatment involve?

The first step is a consultation for you to discuss your needs and wishes. A written plan tailored to your individual requirements is subsequently provided encompassing full details of your treatment. The practice has the latest technology in C.T Scanning and Digital Imaging Technology. You can see before and after photographs and x-rays of completed cases and some of our former patients will even speak to you if you want their advice.

Placing implants is a minor surgical procedure performed in the dental surgery with a local anesthetic. After six to twelve weeks the implants will have integrated and can then be used to anchor articial teeth.

The Implant Team

The team approach is very important for the success of your treatment. The practice manageress, treatment co-ordinators, implant nurses and dental technicians all play a vital role in the planning and smooth running of our cases. Oral sedation is available for our more anxious patients.
